For as long as I can remember, I've had a deep appreciation of upbeat, dance-driven pop and R&B music with good grooves, good melodies, and good vocalists. I know there are others in the area who appreciate fun, quality music from the '80s and '90s. Talented artists like Sheena Easton, Billy Ocean, Craig David, Bananarama, Haddaway, the Pointer Sisters, and Deniece Williams — to name just a few. But it's not everyday that we might by chance meet another fan on the street. So, I'm starting this g …

I decided to start this group for those who strive to understand the underlying mechanics when they listen to, perform, and write music. For those who do not obtusely serve the engine to which the label "unseen forces" is applied, but throw themselves into the moving gears to understand how it works. Our purpose is to cultivate a deeper understanding of music and musicianship, gaining perspective on our own knowledge, sharing compositions and performances to gain feedback, analysis, and insight …

The Northern Virginia Musicians Workshop is a monthly event where musicians of ALL skill levels can practice the Art of Performing in front of an audience and share feedback with encouraging peers. I think it's different (but not better) than a jam or a song circle, because it was created to provide you the platform to try out new songs, covers and stories in a low-stress environment. Jerad Walker of WAMU 88.5 Bluegrass Country describes it like "Toastmasters for musicians." And it totally is. …

I am a thirty something cool chick who happens to love music. I’m always looking for the next concert. We are a group of movie fans who like to watch foreign movies and independent films. We normally meet before or after the movie over a coffee or a meal to socialize and talk about movies. To help new members find the group, we try to: 1) meet at the same time (25 min before movie starts; 5-10 minutes later, we go in to get seats); 2) meet at an easy-to-find location; 3) sit at the same place (third or fourth center row from the back). See you at the movies!
